stu-stu-studio

I kind of introduced the first track of the new album without really letting you know that I was even recording a new album.  Wasn't trying to keep secrets.  Sometimes I get too excited too early, and then I jump the gun and ruin everything...

Dim lights

I think it's safe now to officially tell you that I've started recording my first studio album!

It's been such a long time coming… I just looked in my filing cabinet and found a job application from 2006 - that's the year I decided to finally get a real job so I could save up for an album (and a car… and food… and eventually a place to live… I know, I'm a really late bloomer).  The hardest part turned out to be finding a recording situation that felt right to me.

Well I've finally found my match, in Minneapolis of all places.  I came across the very talented Bryan Hanna while researching people who engineered/produced some of my favorite songs on my Pandora radio station.

And now we're working together.  I record all my song parts here (guitars/keys/vocals mostly), send them to Bryan, and he adds parts I've never dreamed of, fills it in, pumps it up, and polishes it off in his magical, mysterious way.  (That makes it sound trivial or lighthearted, but it's seriously amazing.)  We go back and forth with all sorts of different ideas until it's just right.

I also finally made some long overdue upgrades in the home studio department, which in itself has been kind of exciting; I've never been able to make recordings this smoothly and trouble-free at home.

That's where I'm at these days, in case you were wondering.  Chipping away at the rest of the album material right now.  Will keep you updated as things progress :-)
